We had the pleasure of documenting the second annual Cruise-a-Thong in Glenwood Springs this past July. “It’s the Don’t-Try-Athlon for the not-so-hardcore athlete in all of us.”
The event started at Veltus Park with a leisurely ride around the loop on a cruiser bike of sorts or you could go a slightly longer route into downtown Glenwood Springs to grab a 50 cent ice cream cone from Sweet Adventures. There were quite a few comfort stations this year to revive you on the grueling bike leg of the race after your ice cream break- including Carbondale Soda Company, XS Energy Snow Cones and Jimmy Johns. The second leg was a short walk in flip flops while carrying your flotation device. The last leg of the Cruise-a-Thong was setting off for a short float down the Roaring Fork River back to Veltus Park. The winner was whoever had the most average time, the average Joe of the race. A big congratulations to Dana Peterson (probably one of the least average people), who was named the most average joe at this year’s Cruise-a-Thong in Glenwood Springs, Colorado!
Thanks to the crew of Cruise-a-Thong Glenwood for putting this grand event together and for having us document this fun day in history again!
